Video production has always been an interest of mine, since 2007. That's not exactly always but I feel I was rounding into some form of adulthood then. I did my own hair and everything, but my duvet cover didn't change, it was Star wars then and 6 years into the future at this moment I'm sat here writing my latest blog post it is still a Star Wars duvet. For those of you that recall the year 2007 it was the year lifeless Scot Leon Jackson won the X factor and had the crown of two hit wonder to empty crowds cruise singer placed on his head. There was a state of national security that night but the United Kingdom made a full recovery and remained reassured by the ever reliable George Michael, our real Prime Minister.

Back to my main reason for writing this post, 2007 was a significant year because it marked the start of my interest in filming. I had been a huge fan  o film prior to this year, anyone whose seen a Tom hanks or Steven Spielberg film cannot prevent falling in love with film. But I had never knew what was involved or what it took to make a film until one day my Brother Josh had been bought a camera for his birthday. I had to reason to celebrate this day, one was that it was also my birthday, Josh is my triplet brother and two, I was excited to see what we could film. Don't let the triplet thing shake you up, I'll talk about that in a later post, your not ready yet.

 

Over the course of 2007 onwards we started to film regularly, most commonly on weekends, filming on the Saturday and editing on the Sunday. If we required to film more we would turn Sunday into another filming day and edit during the week in our spare time. Together we had many trials and many errors, not really piecing scenes together and not telling a story of any sort, we quite literally filmed anything and everything. That is until one day in the latter half of 2007 whilst we were a part of young enterprise, which saw me, josh, my other brother Jordan and several more people design a product that we would later pitch, make and sell, we got asked to film an advert for the team.

 

Both Me and Josh were so excited to be filming our first serious and coherent video, 'We will be stars' Josh said seriously. Out of the two of us Josh is the believer, no matter what we filmed or how bad it was he never admitted that it would lead to nothing, he remained optimistic about our future as famous film makers and believed everything we filmed could make us money, or bring us fame.

On the day of filming we had chosen the home of Gemma jack to film the advert for our young enterprise product, a behaviour chart for children. Gemma was a member of young enterprise and gave us all permission to meet at her house one weekend she even bought refreshments and got her Mum to prepare food for us all. The advert was going to be the first time we had directed people, I said he could do that as he is better at communicating than me, he'll swear and shot if necessary to get what he wants, effective technique. The day of filming arrived, Gemma, myself and Josh sat waiting for the other eight members of the enterprise group, we sat for hours waiting patiently, even after no one had come a couple of hours later than planned we didn't give up hope. Sadly, we were let down, not one person came, not one person gave us a reason or at least a bad excuse, but this deception turned out for the best.

We were both adamant not to waste the day so discussed ideas for a potential video. An hour had passed and together we had come up with a rough idea for a video, there would be no acting, nor dialogue, nor anything that is remotely close to a standard video. We chose a selection of costumes from Gemma's Mums wardrobe and hit the road in search of remote locations, they had to be remote so we didn't disturb anyone with our female clad bodies letting loose.

The results of this escapade gave us our first real video, it had somewhat of a confusing start, middle and end but none the less It did have a three act structure.....I think.

From that day as a pair we have gone from strength to strength, residing in the comedic realm. Comedy gives us the freedom to explore and experiment without being restricted to a plot or a set, actors, costumes or a script that is compulsory to create a serious video. Believe it or not me and Josh followed this video titled, Gingerglasses-Ruthless People, with a selection of other random videos that formed the Gingerglasses franchise.

These videos gained a cult following in our High School, pupils tuned in and knew they was going to get a good laugh, that's what's so appealing about them. Created before the days of Twitter and Facebook our videos relied heavily on word of mouth and managed to garner a respectable amount of views considering it was only a high percentage of our High School that knew about them.

 

Five years in the future these videos gave us an unstable platform onto more serious projects I.e our production company, Trifella Productions. Founded in 2012 again the partnership of me and Josh alongside the extremely talented designer Umar Nawaz, the three of us founded the company. It is still at an early stage and we don't get to see much of each other because we are all separated by University but when we do get together we try and make a video or some kind. The quality gets better and better each time and ultimately we want to develop into a well known and respected Media company. Currently we have discussed our long term goals as a company and see corporate videos as a good start for us. Commercials for local businesses will be what we will be looking to do as soon as we get a good amount of time together and hopefully this will progress into filming adverts for well known brands such as, Costa coffee and Sweatshop. Ideally the corporate stuff will fund what we love to do most and that is make films, it is a dream of ours to write and make an award winning film.
